In this project I hope to look into how Latino-led labor movements were able to use community oriented activism and how this was reflected in leadership strategies and organizing materials. By looking into this topic, I want to offer more scholarship on Latino-American labor activism and a more in depth look at the ways identity and race impact organizing. In my work, I argue that Latino-led labor movements took the needs of the communities they were based in into account when advocating and created strategies and materials to cater to Latino-American communities specifically. My project looks at primary sources that demonstrate the ways Latino-American led used organizational materials to cater to a Spanish-speaking, Latino-American, audience as well as the ways outside groups reacted to their movements and activism. I hope to be able to connect a wide range of labor movements through their collective use of community-oriented activism to appeal to a Latino-American audience.
